Apprentice Carpenter

Primary Objective

The primary objective for the Apprentice Carpenter is to follow the leadership and guidance of the Lead Carpenter. The team is responsible for the compliance of company quality standards and workmanship on all projects at all levels of progress.


Secondary Objective

The Apprentice Carpenter is responsible for the customer experience by delivering the exact project materials and workmanship that was sold by the LU Design Build Sales Team.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for following the instructions of the Lead Carpenter in charge of the construction project from start to finish.

  • Responsible for completing work according to company standards and expectations.

  • Responsible for updating accurate time card and material purchases at end of each working day before leaving job site.

  • Responsible for transmitting and keeping track of new sales information from the customer or potential customer to the Project Manager.

  • Responsible for proper dress attire and attendance to comply with company expectations.

  • Responsible for optimum utilization of resources: labor, materials and equipment. Ensuring the use of these resources is the most cost-effective terms for the company.

  • All crew members are responsible for the development of effective communications and mechanisms for resolving conflicts among the various participants during a project.

  • Work as a team and help develop the professional company goals; help other team members do the same.

  • Ensure that construction activities move according to predetermined schedule.

  • Communicate effectively with the contractors responsible for completing various phases of the project and with the customers.

  • Help facilitate and coordinate the efforts of all parties involved in the project, which include the architects, consultants, contractors, subcontractors and laborers.

  • Be accountable for the progress and the construction activities on a regular basis.

  • Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines, quality and safety standards.

  • Perform periodic inspection of projects to be compliant of contract guidelines.

  • Identify problems of project design and construction, and bring to the attention of the Lead Carpenter or Production Manager or Production Coordinator.

  • Assist with building repairs includes building items such as furniture and stairs, making repairs to the internal and external structure and ensuring buildings are safe.

  • Team members are not allowed to accept gifts from any customer, supplier, or competitor. i.e. free or discounted services, travel, entertainment, vacation trip accommodations, or anything that could be construed as an attempt to influence the team member.

  • We cannot tolerate a consistently bad attitude toward any aspect of the company – whether it is a specific person you have a problem with, or any such issues. You must be able to either solve or adapt to your issues!

  • Responsible for keeping company equipment including trucks, vans, smaller equipment and hand tools clean, in good working order and put away where they belong in either the vehicle they are assigned to or the location in the shop.

  • Keep inside and outside of all company vehicles and vehicles used for company purposes clean, with no tools, materials or paperwork lying on the floor or the seat of the vehicle. Also the back of the van or truck should be organized and secure for safety.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable of properly handling basic hand tools and power tools

  • Knowledge of basic carpentry skills

Lead Carpenter

Primary Objective

The Primary Objective for the Lead Carpenter is to lead and guide the crew on the job to a successful on time completion.  The team is responsible for the compliance of company quality standards and workmanship on all projects at all levels of progress.

The Lead Carpenter is responsible for the team’s on-site activities, products and workmanship done by the remodeling team.  The Lead Carpenter is held accountable for the team's actions in the field on the LU Design Build Projects. Each team member will be held responsible for their own actions by the Project Manager in charge of the job.


Secondary Objective

The Lead Carpenter is responsible for gradually training the Apprentice Carpenter the knowledge, skills and abilities required to develop them to be able to perform the carpentry needs for the entirety of the job. The Lead Carpenter is also responsible for contributing to the customer experience by delivering the exact project materials and workmanship that was sold by the LU Design Build Sales Team. The Lead Carpenter is also responsible for compliance in regards to estimated time and materials vs. actual time taken on the job and materials; this information will come from the Project Manager responsible for the project.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for following the instructions of the Project Manager in charge of the construction project from start to finish. And asking for clear project objectives, timeframes and plans from the Project Manager.

  • Responsible for completing work according to company standards and expectations.

  • Responsible for updating accurate time card and material purchases at end of each working day before leaving job site.

  • Responsible for posting a “Daily Updates” (by 7am) to Basecamp message threads for projects assigned to for that day. These messages are to be posted EVERYDAY or as directed by LU Project Manager.

  • Responsible for reporting end of day progress report (via text, phone call or email) to PM by 3:30pm everyday.

  • Responsible for transmitting and keeping track of new sales information from the customer or potential customer to the Project Manager.  

  • Responsible for proper dress attire and attendance to comply with company expectations.

  • Responsible for optimum utilization of resources; labor, materials and equipment, and ensuring their use at most cost-effective terms for the company.

  • Identify problems of project design and construction, and bring to the attention of the Project Manager.

  • Take Lead on building repairs which includes building items such as furniture and stairs, making repairs to the internal and external structure and ensuring buildings are safe.

  • Responsible 100% for all workmanship actions.

  • Ensure that the Project Manager has all project documents, receipts and labor charges  when turning in a completed job folder to the Account Manager Director.

  • Serve as a key link with the clients by creating a solid line of communications with client during the process of the project if the Project Manager is absent.

  • If you are absent from work for 2 days and have not contacted the company office, you may be terminated for job abandonment

  • Each team member will have 4 Quarterly Reviews along with an Annual Performance Review Evaluation.  

  • Starting now, each individual person in our company will complete an employee performance agreement every year.  

    • The performance agreements will include personal and professional intentions with a firm commitment to achieving their desired goals, expectations and behavior performance within the allotted time.

  • You are responsible for your conduct while you are on-site at any client’s property.  We have been, and continue to be very proud of the business conduct of our people and our suppliers.

  • You will be given company goals for the various tasks and financial goals depending on your Job Description.  

    • These goals will be assigned each new-year you are employed by the agency.

  • Know how to properly install complex trim and finish carpentry

  • Know how to properly use all carpentry hand tools, power tools and pneumatic tools

  • Know how to calculate accurate material take off

  • Know how to read blueprints and project plans

Project Manager/Construction

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the construction project from start to finish.

  • Responsible 100% for all Department Crew members’ actions.

  • Responsible for all material purchases and scheduling and supervising of subcontractors for related jobs..

  • Responsible for day to day Crew activities.

  • Responsible for keeping a complete company job folder, filled out as requested.

  • Responsible for turning in a complete job folder to the Company Account Manager as finished. Including all job labor and material receipts and or Change Orders.

  • Responsible for holding all Crew Members accountable to company standards and expectations.

  • Responsible for Crew dress code and attendance.

  • Responsible for project objectives and plans, setting performance requirements for the crew.

  • Bringing about optimum utilization of resources- labor, materials and equipment, and ensuring their procurement at most cost-effective terms.

  • The Project Manager is responsible for the development of effective communications and mechanisms for resolving conflicts among the various participants during a project.

  • Ensure that construction activities move according to predetermined schedule.

  • Devise the project work plans and make revisions as and when need arises.

  • Monitor the progress of the construction activities on a regular basis and hold regular status meetings with all the sub-teams and Crew.

  • Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines, quality and safety standards.

  • Perform periodic inspection of projects to compliance of contract guidelines.

  • Ensure project documents are complete when turning in a completed job folder to the Account Manager.

  • Identify the elements of project design and construction likely to give rise to disputes and claims.

  • Serve as a key link with the clients by creating a solid line of communications with client during the process of the project.

  • Responsible for turning in completed project job folders assembled and organized for the Account Manager to enter end of job information before for closing.

  • The Project Manager is responsible for making sure that all related job expenses are included in the job folder when it is turned into the Account Manager.

  • Expenses such as labor time counts, material receipts, misc. expenses and Sub-Contractor receipts so the Actual Project Expenses can be calculated.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

  • 5 years min Residential Project Management Experience required.

  • Clean Driving record required.

  • Formal Trade school training required
